Ok you're not good with slang, but are you good and comfortable with manipulating files in your computer? If so, keep reading, I'll walk ya through it.
Go into My Computer and find the directory into which you installed the game (I've never personally installed this one, but it's probably something like C:\Program Files\LucasArts\KOTOR) and find the file called "swkotor.ini". Create a backup of the file (just copy and paste it into a different folder so you can restore default settings later with little difficulty), then open it using Notepad. You may have to do some reading through the file, but find the line that reads "EnableCheats=0" and change the "0" to a "1". Then you'll press the apostrophe key while you're playing to bring down the console (which is just a separate window that lets you type in commands for the game), then enter whatever cheats you'd like to use. Generally, you can type these in exactly as they're written, but in cases like these, it'll take some trial and error.
For example, if you type in "giveitem g_w_lghtsbr01", it might give you a double-bladed purple lightsaber when you were looking for a single-bladed orange one...or something like that. But, since you're cheating, I think that'll be ok. :-)
