This guide is designed to give you an overview of the zone of Elysium and the various quests and areas that you will come upon during your time in this zone. First off - a map of the entire area that should help you find you bearings. There are five zones that make up Elysium - Elysium (central Elysium on map), Southern Elysium,Northern Elysium, Western Elysium and Eastern Elysium. As the zone names might suggest - where they are on the map is fairly self explanatory!
There are four routes into Elysium. You can take the portal from Nascense, speak to Ergo on Rubi-Ka (in Wailing Wastes, outside Last Ditch [where the Reet Retreat is], and In Omni forest), or take either of the two portals into Elysium from Jobe. Which is easier for you will depend on your level and finances (the Jobe portal to Northern Elysium requires 10k credits to use).
Ergo and Progression
Each zone in the Shadowlands has a quest associated with it to progress to the next set of zones. In this case, you need to complete a quest in order for Ergo to allow you progress to Scheol. If you are above 80, Ergo will let you through to Scheol without requiring you to do the quest. First though you will have to find the little guy in his Elysium home.
So where do you find Ergo? That's actually a bit easier in Elysium then it is in Nascense, Ergo lives in another cave of trials in the Northern area of Northern Elysium. If you are over level 60 the easiest way is to take the Jobe portal into Port Five and head slightly NW and you will come across the entrance to his cave. If you are under 60, just keep heading north, although some of the aggro mobs along the route may present a problem or two.
Once you have found him, speak to him again and he will ask you to help him deal with some creatures in Elysium that are causing some problems for him and his Yuttos helpers. He will tell you that you will need to find some weaker specimens to tease out a more healthy one that you can loot. Ergo will send you on this quest in stages, but you can do them all in one go, and it saves the trip back to him for more clues every time. The four items you need are as follows, his descriptions of where to find them are also sketchy at best, and at worst slightly misleading:
- Mortiig's Heart
- Imp's Wing
- Hiathlin's Spine
- Eremites Vibrissa
So first off lets go looking for the Lost Mortiig, marked as 1 on the map, although it can wander, but that's a decent area to start searching. Kill it, but do not loot the corpse (as it can bug the rest of the encounter) then a Mortiig from out of nowhere will appear. After killing that one, an Another Mortiig you didn't see will pop up so kill that one too (you will notice that this one's a bit tougher). Then after you dispatch that one four Mortiig will appear, three of which are called Fragile Mortiig's and one of which is a Healthy Looking Mortiig. Kill the fragile ones quickly as they have very few hit points (but can hurt you a bit if you leave them) then turn your attention to the healthy one. Once its dead loot the heart that Ergo is looking for.
The other encounters follow exactly the same pattern - kill the lost <mob>, get a<mob> from out of Nowhere, kill that then dispatch the Another <mob> you didn't see and finally kill the four remaining mobs starting with the fragile ones. Take a look on the map above to see the locations for the lost versions of the Hiathlin, Imp and Eremite.
When it comes to the Eremites bear in mind that they are under ground so you will have to keep tabbing to find them, also they are very close to the brink and there are often hecklers very close to where the lost eremite spawns. Once all four encounters have been completed you should have all four parts that Ergo needs.
Once you have all the parts, return them to Ergo and he will inform you that a final test is required, an item called the 'mark of the challenger' will appear in your inventory. Head into the next area of Ergo's chamber and you will see the trial area as shown below:
Move up to the center of the area and it should zone you into a small dungeon, then you have to take on a few mobs and a big boss mob, depending on your level the mob could be quite a challenge and has lots of hit points. Loot the items it drops and return them to Ergo who will reward you with the Insipid ring appropriate for your profession:
- Caliginous Ring for the Infantry Unit (Enf,MA,Keep,Shade)
- Caliginous Ring for the Support Unit (MP,Adv,Doc)
- Caliginous Ring for the Artillery Unit (Sol,Agent,Fix)
- Caliginous Ring for the Control Unit (Engie, trade)
- Caliginous Ring for the Extermination Unit (NT,Crat)
As stated above, if you are above 80 you can just speak to Ergo as with the Nascense version and just be given the ring - remember to keep an eye out for the dialogue option that allows you to suggest the task is beneath you.
Once you have the ring you can approach the portal in the next chamber - take a look at the bottom of the portal and you will see a silverish button, take the ring and click on the button, it will flash red and transport you to Upper Scheol.
The second main quest that you will want to complete in Elysium is the access key to the garden appropriate to your faction, either the redeemed or the unredeemed. To start these quests you need to visit either the redeemed or unredeemed temples in Elysium - Utopolis or Nero (both marked on the map).
Both quests are very similar, just a case of visiting slightly different mobs depending on the side you are aligned with. Before you get started on either the Omni (Unredeemed) or Clan (Redeemed) quests, you should collect several insignias to make your journey easier. Without them, you are in for a series of long (and if you're a bit of a lowbie, possibly dangerous) runs.
To use an Insignia, simply pick it up onto your cursor and right click it on a Redeemed or Unredeemed statue. this will transport you to the Garden, but the Insignia will be consumed in the process. Once inside, you can save your character and exit the garden to other locations via a collection of "Passage" stones (they look exactly like the ones you use to enter the Garden). You do not need Insignias to use these, just a right click (or double click) will do.
The best place, in my opinion to gather such insignias is a place called the Chapel of Chants. It is marked on the playfield map (farther up this page). You can easily get to it by entering Elysium from the portal that leads from Jobe Market and heading east. At the Chapel, you will find a whole lot of Hiathlins, Brisk Hiathlins, Malahs, and Malah-Anas. The dual named mobs are tougher than their single named counterparts. You can generally start soloing these mobs with some difficulty in your early-mid 50s. Any lower than that, and you may want to get a couple friends to help (or one high level friend). The mobs there drop both Shere (Unredeemed/Omni) and Enel (Redeemed/Clan) Insignias at a fairly decent rate. I suggest gathering 9-10 Insignias of your side before starting on the garden quest.
Shere Garden Quest
Once you have your Insignias, its time to start the quest. Assuming you entered via the Port 7 Portal from Jobe Market and collected insignias at the Chapel of Chants, use one of your insignias on the statue located on the east side of the Stormshelter building. Once inside the garden, you'll see many statues arranged in a wide circle around the "central save character structure". Look for the one marked "Passage to Nero and use it to exit.
Once at Nero, head along the path that should be to your left (it weaves between high walls and machines and it is rather narrow) until you come upon the Temple itself.
Up the ramp, you will encounter a being called Prophet Nar Shere. Open a dialogue with him and say the following things to him (all messages will be approximations of what you can actually say, such will be the case throughout this guide):
-I seek Guidance.
-If they discover your rejection..?
This will get you a mission, a courier route to get the approval of his comrades. The first three Unredeemed you need to pass the letter to are all nearby at the temple itself.
First, speak to Follower Man-Wox Shere, who is to Prophet Nar Shere's right (his right, assuming he is facing the ramp, not yours). Speak to him:
(Hand him the letter)
Second, head down the ramp and speak to Visionist Jorr-Dom Shere. Speak to him:
-I am honored..
-I'll make sure it lasts...
(Hand him the letter)
Third, walk back up the ramp and look up to the top of a platform to Prophet Nar Shere's left (his left, assuming he is facing the ramp, not yours) to see Hypnogogic Xum-Ixi Shere. He is a very touchy fellow, speak to him politely and to the point:
-May I speak?
-(just say your name)
-The Prophet sent me.
-You know what I need, don't waste time.
-We need to learn from the past.
-To make sure..
(Hand him the letter)
Ok, now you need to head back where you popped in from the Garden Exit and jump down through a crack in the wall. Once down, you should see a Shere Statue, use another insignia on it to enter the Garden. Once inside, find the statue marked "Passage to Stormshelter" and exit. When you exit, update your quest to your planet map to get a waypoint indicator in your compass just like a regular Rubi-Ka mission. This will point you directly to the next guy, who is positioned atop a raised section up some steps from the big central courtyard on the west side of the complex.
Follower Yutt-Ixi Shere is there, speak to him:
-You already know...
-Yes, of course..
(Hand him the letter)
-Yes, he did.
Right next to him, you should find Visionist Dom-Xum Shere. Speak to him:
-I'm here to give you a letter...
(Hand him the letter)
Once you're done speaking to him, head back to the Statue you exited from and use another of your Insignias to return to the Garden. Once inside, find the statue marked "Passage to Remnans" and use it, exiting to an Unredeemed camp in the northwestern areas of Elysium. Very nearby, at a campfire, you should find Fortuitous Jorr-Fes Shere. Speak to him:
-I have no right..
-But I haven't..
(Hand him the letter)
Once you're done speaking to him, head back into the Garden once again, using an Insignia on the nearby statue. This next one is tricky, as you actually have to make a bit of a run. Exit through the statue named "Passage to Sabre's Cradle" and once you are out, head east down the long, rocky ramp. As soon as you're able (the landscape will serve as an obstacle) head north until you find a nearby road and continue along it until it makes a sharp turn to the east. Stop there, as right next to you, should be standing an Unredeemed named Ardent Pi Shere (he is marked on the map). Long ago, he would wander, but he no longer does. If he is not there, then someone killed him, simply wait for him to respawn.
Thanks to Ashuras for the screenshot showing his location in more detail.
Speak to Ardent Pi Shere:
-Here to show you a letter...
Once your conversation with him is over, retrace your steps to the south and enter the Garden via the Sabre's Cradle Statue. Exit through "Passage to Nero" and head back to the Prophet Nar Shere. Speak to him:
-I've talked to my brethren..
(Hand him the letter)
-Who should I turn to?
The prophet will then instruct you to head to the garden of Shere, so head back to the statue as pointed out earlier and enter the garden.
Inside the garden you need to find Garboli Chi Shere, who is in the northern maze area. Once you find him, speak to him:
-I'm just following orders..
(Hand him the letter)
-For the Glory of Shere..
He will send you on a new mission to spy on some of the Redeemed mobs around Elysium - you don't need to actually kill any of them, just target them until the mission updates.
Exit the Garden via "Passage to Jagged Coast" and from there, head out of the trench and run north. Not far away is a place called Ripwell. Enter a building which is immediately inside (a bit north and a bit west). You don't actually zone to enter it, it's one of those 'hollow buildings that allow you inside'. The first three mobs you need to tag are all inside there. To make it easy on yourself, just stand there and hit tab a bunch of times til you get mission update music, pause a second, do it again, rinse, repeat.
For the record, the mobs you need to ID are:
-Watcher Enel-Ulma Thar
-Sipius Enel-Lux Mara
-Devoted Enel Ilad Ulma
Once your mission has updated 3 times, head out of the building and retrace your steps south to the statue. Enter the Garden.
Exit via "Passage to Spade". You are heading to the place on the map on this page that is marked "Barter". To get there, head north, then east up a slope, then around a bend when it's possible and west. You should see some white platforms and buildings ahead. Once at the platforms, head north across them (going up or down ramps as needed) and pass them completely. To your right should be an archway to an open courtyard with a heck of a lot of Redeemed mobs in it. Inside the Courtyard will be 4 mobs which you need to ID. They are in some odd spots, so the tabbing trick won't really work well. The mobs are:
-Watcher Enel Hume-Yeol
-Sipius Enel Gil-Gil
-Diviner Enel Thar-Thar
-Devoted Enel Cama-Lux
Once you're done, retrace your steps to the Spade statue and enter the Garden.
Exit via "Passage to Shunpike" and run west to the white Temple known as Utopolis. If you're a lowbie, be very careful, the area is riddled with Shunpike Dryads that not only pack a nasty punch, but have a horribly strong DoT that can easily kill little ones. I know I've had some bad experiences with them..
At Utopolis, there are two mobs you need to find:
-Watcher Enel Mara-Cama, who is on the main bridge
that leads from the grassy area into the Temple
-Devoted Enel Thar-Ilad, who is under the main dome.
To reach him, stand on the bridge facing the Temple
entrance and jump off to your right, heading forward
along the contours of the building. You should find
yourself in a bit of a "back yard" (not the 'starting
area' kind, the 'thing you have behind your house'
kind) littered with Redeemed. Devoted Enel Thar-Ilad
should be one of them.
You should now head back to the Garden again and speak to Garboli Chi Shere:
-I've completed my assignment..
(Hand him the tracker)
He will reward you with a permanent key to the Garden of Shere.
Ok, that's the Unredeemed, now on to the Redeemed...
Enel Garden Quest
To start you need to get the quest started by visiting Ecclesiast Enel at the temple in Utopolis (marked on the map above). He will send you on a courier route to get the approval of his comrades. You find the the Ecclesiast head through the first two rooms then up the spiral staircase in the center of the second room. The Ecclesiast can be found in one of the rooms off that central platform. Once you've found him and started the quest the first three Redeemed you need to pass the letter to are all inside the temple itself in the various rooms so they should be pretty easy to find. Sometimes there are now located outside the temple in the clearing below the raised dome. It's only then you have to head out into the wilds again and start a fairly long trek (unless you have the insignias) - the mission time is very generous though (two days) so don't feel you need to rush.
After the three in the temple itself you need to travel to Barter (marked clearly on the map, southwestern Elysium) and find Devoted Cama Lux and Diviner Enel Thar-Thar in that order, they will both want to see the letter.
Next up is Watcher Enel Ulma Thar, he can be found at the redeemed camp called Ripwell (Also marked clearly on the map, northeastern Elysium) inside the big building that you can enter.
Next in line for your letter is Acolyte Enel Wei who can be a touch harder to find as he is alone, away from an established redeemed camp. His approximate location is marked on the map in central western Elysium (it will be familiar if you have found the lost imp from the ring quest). Also his leg of the mission cannot be uploaded to your map like the other legs. Be careful with his dialogue here as he is angry sort and it is normal for him to throw away the letter! Don't panic, you will get it back as long as you aren't rude to him, once that's done and you have his begrudging approval he will tell you to head back to the Ecclesiast in Utopolis.
The Ecclesiast will then direct you to the garden of Enel. Inside the garden you need to give Forester Enel Aban the letter. Again be careful with his dialogue - be modest and do not claim to have been possessed by the spirit of Enel - act as if you have no clue what's going on and be humble to succeed through his dialogue. He will now send you on a new mission to spy on some of the unredeemed mobs around Elysium - you don't need to actually kill any of them, just target them until the mission updates.
Head to the Unredeemed town a little north by north east of Central Elysium, marked clearly on the map as Remnans - there are three to tag there all around the fireside. Remember no need to fight, just target and wait for it to complete each time. Check the mission details for the next relevant mob to target.
Next up is Fortuitous Hes-Man Shere who can be a pain if you didn't know as he is actually inside the unredeemed temple at Nero. Head inside and he is by the door at the end of the front room. Next up you need to travel to Stormshelter temple, marked on the map near just south of the Chapel of Chants, west of the portal from Jobe Market (Port 7). Again three mobs on your hit-list, Hygnagogic Ixi-Blothaar Shere, Visionist Dom- um Shere and Follower Ultrix Shere. They are on a raised section up some steps from the big central courtyard. Back to Nero again for the last two - Fortuitous Pi-Zul Shere should be found to the side of the big entrance ramp, and Follower Man Wox Shere at the bottom of the steps. All of the guys tagged your mission should update and you should now be able to head back to the Garden again, using the other insignia to gain entry and give Forester Enel Aban the device he gave you at the start of this leg of the quest. He will reward you with the Enel permanent key.
So there you go, both garden quests done and dusted! Now on to the Sanctuary Quests.
Now that you have a permanent Garden Key, transit between areas will prove much more reliable - no need to pharm those Insignias! However, there is a second key. This key will offer you access to a different Garden, called a Sanctuary. The key itself offers better bonuses when equipped, and the Sanctuary sells different nano programs in it's vendor and has different exits. Sanctuary statues, like Garden Statues, are littered around the map, however, you need the Sanctuary key to use them. They look much like the normal Garden Statues, except they have an extra ring of thick, bright writing around the upper section. Another way to get to them is to use the Transportation Statue located in your respective garden.
To start the Sanctuary Key Quest as an Omni, head to Nero and go talk to Prophet Nar Shere. As a Clan, go speak to Ecclesiast Enel in the Utopolis complex. I don't have the exact Clan dialogue on record (if you do, send in an Email) but for the Omni version, you tell the Prophet that you spoke to the Garboil. I can only assume the Ecclesiast wants to know that you spoke to the Forester. The quest itself is relatively straight forward... remember the eight mobs you tagged on the last legs of the garden quest? Well now the situation has developed and you have to go and kill them all. They are all still in the same locations they were last time out so just follow the directions in the garden quest section.
If the mobs aren't grey to you, it may be most difficult to kill them as they can gang up in large groups. In order to kill them when they are not grey to you (green and above), it's recommended you have a dedicated team with a tank/puller, or a high level with some kind of negative nano they can cast. These will aggro their attackers even when grey, so as long as a high level can make 'em angry, they can pull them out to you (without adds) and allow you to kill them.
On the last kill the mob will drop a 'Briefing'. Take the Briefing and return it (Your mission will updated) - just don't forget to run off without looting the briefing item! That done your reward will be the Sanctuary key. Like said above, you can move between the garden and the sanctuary using the statues of transit or access the Sanctuary directly through any of the many sanctuary statue in the wilds.
Specialization Quest Mobs
The other main quest that people will work on whilst in Nascense is the first tier of the nano ability specialization - see our guide to the specialization quest here. The mobs you need to find for two of the quests can actually be found here, redeemed and unredeemed mobs drop parts for both tier one and tier two of the specialization quest. The mobs actually inside Utopolis and Nero also drop parts needed for the second tier (The Girl Who Saw It All). In terms of tier one any of the sided mobs around the Redeemed/Unredeemed city/camp locations marked on the map have a chance of dropping the pages.
There are quite a few of these in Elysium as marked on the map (and probably more I haven't found yet) The mobs tend to vary from 70-100ish, and so the bosses can be tough for even higher level players. As an example a gray level 90 boss took me a good half hour to kill solo with my 15X character! In a team though they should be much easier.
This dungeon can be found in Monopolis and is largely populated by spirits and Kolanas and unredeemed mobs, the mobs are around level 90ish.
Found on the raised area in the North West of Central Elysium this dungeon houses mobs around 80ish and are mostly beasts or unaligned spirits.
Again in Central Elysium this dungeon can be found at the foot of the massive waterfall on the border with eastern Elysium. It houses a combination of redeemed mobs and spirits around level 70.
This dungeon can be found on the southern edge of Shell Beach in a narrow gorge and can be quite difficult to spot, again spirits and Kolanas are the common foes inside and around level 80-90.
The bosses found inside are very tough critters as noted above, but they are the main source of arbiter gems needed to construct Arul Saba bracelets. The dungeons operate in very similar ways to team missions on Rubi-Ka with several levels and a 'boss room' - the boss can have up to two other mobs with him so be careful.
Map of Elysium
Unlike the Nascense / Jobe map which must be quested for - the Elysium map can be bought on Rubi-Ka or found in Elysium. You need to find one of these critters:
These creatures trained by the Yuttos to survey the area of Elysium, but they do drop the map nano.
Transport across Elysium
There is also an extra means of getting between East and West Elysium using these portals:
They can be a bit difficult to use as depending where you enter it can exit you in a spot that will immediately port you back to where you came from!! So be patient when using them.
So there you have it, everything you need to start making inroads in exploring Elysium. Have fun out there and stay as safe as possible!
