Players are allowed to own their own apartments in AO, but it's one section of the game slightly neglected, and very infrequently explained to new starters, this guide will explain the basics of owning your own little corner of Rubi-Ka.

How do I get an Apartment?

All player characters can own an apartment. You get your apartment in a very straight forward way, unfortunately it's also easy to do without realizing it! This can lead to new players often not knowing that they already have an apartment, let alone where it is! You get your apartment the first time you enter an 'apartment' door in one of the backyard areas of one of the starting cities. All apartments are in the backyards. You cannot have an apartment anywhere else. The picture to the left is of the apartment entrance in a neutral backyard. In Omni backyards the apartments are up the stairs on the upper level of the backyard to your right as you enter the backyard from the city. In clan territories they are also on the raised section behind the training mission entrance. Once you have entered your first apartment it's yours and a key will appear in your inventory. This must be in your inventory every subsequent time you want to get into your apartment. Please note that you can't use it if it is in a backpack. It must be in your main Inventory.

What is inside my apartment?

Well not much! Each apartment is three rooms, a short entrance hall, a large room and a smaller room to your right. Apart from that it's fairly blank for now. Clan, Neutral and Omni apartments all look different.

So what about furniture?

Furniture can be found in missions and from furniture terminals in some shops. At the moment you can only have ten items in your apartment. If you leave any more furniture in there over the ten limit it will disappear so be warned!

While there are plans to upgrade what you can do with apartments according to the 'envisioned' section of the main site, you can't at the moment get anything like tables, chairs or beds. You can however get pictures for the walls, stereo systems, lights, lamps, statues even a refrigerator!

Can other people get inside my apartment?

Yes, you have to be teamed with them, and you have to be the team leader, you do not have to dupe the key like in missions.

What if I lose my key?

You have to purchase an Apartment Application Form in a shop, it will reset your apartment so you can get a new apartment, but you do lose anything stored in the previous one, so be careful with that key!

Can I change my apartment if I went in one by accident when I started?

Yes, like mentioned above you can get to reset your original Apartment and get a new one at a different place if you want.

Can I get a Luxury Apartment in Jobe?

Only those who pre-ordered Shadowlands got them, the only way to get one after the release of the expansion is by winning apartment keys through promotional giveaways and contests, usually run by Funcom and fansites. You can check how Jobe Luxury Apartment look by checking here. Those who purchased Shadowlands after it's release still get an Apartment in Jobe, but nowhere near as nice as the Luxury type. It is however different from the ones available in Rubi-Ka.
