Trial of Guild Member
By ValerieRose
This quest is the common lvl 35 quest for all dwarves, and it starts in Giran. You must talk to Warehouse Keeper Valkon. He'll give you the Trial only if you pay 2000 adena, unfortunately, there's no way to escape that. So after you pay, he explains you need 7 Journeyman Rings in order for him to give you the Mark. The rings will need to be crafted by you, and during the quest you will obtain the key materials in order to craft those rings. You will need some other materials too, but I'll show them later on the guide.
In any case, Valkon will tell you to look for Blacksmith Altran in Talking Island in order to obtain the recipe to craft the ring. When talking to Valkon, you'll see in the dialogue that you will ask him for "hints". There's a reason for those hints. One of the hints is about the Mandragora farm. The reason why that hint is given is because before Altran even gives you anything, you need to arrive there with a Mandragora Berry, or Altran won't even talk to you.

Anyway, here's where you can find the Mandragoras for the berries, at the Mandragora Farm in Dion, close to the Execution Grounds and the Heretic's Catacomb. There's no direct port, unless you want to use Ancient Adena and port from the Priest of Dawn / Dusk, which will actually land you pretty close to the Farm. Otherwise, you will need to run there. Any of the Mandragoras there should do, and you only need one:

After that, you need to go to Talking Island to find Altran. He can be found in Talking Island, outside in front of a house.

In case you're curious to know what happens if you don't get a Mandragora Berry first, here's what would happen:
![]() |
You'd have to go back to Valkon, and then he'd tell you flat out that you need a Mandragora Berry. But if you got it first, you won't need all this.

In any case, if you got the Berry before going to Talking Island, you won't need all this. So to avoid going back and forth, I suggest remembering to get a Berry before porting to Talking Island. So, providing you have the Berry, Altran will help you and teach you how to make the rings.

If you ask about the Journeyman Gem, he'll redirect you to Warehouse Keeper Norman in Gludin:

If you ask about the Journeyman Deco Beads, he'll redirect you to Blacksmith Pinter in Gludio:

The order you do these two isn't important at all. I started going to Norman in Gludin. Of course, he's grumpy, and busy (like a true dwarven NPC, they're always busy), and will only help you if you help him. He will redirect you to someone else. This time, Blacksmith Duning in Hunter's Village.

Duning can be found at the Blacksmith shop in Hunter's Village. He'll confess that he lost the keys to Breka Orcs, and will ask you to retrieve them.

You can hunt any Breka Orc at all, it doesn't really matter. The Breka's Stronghold port is from Giran, and any of the Breka Orcs found there will drop you the quest item. The drop rate is 100% so you need to hunt 30 of the orcs.

Once you're done, it's back to Duning. He'll thank you, and send you back to Norman in Gludin.

Norman will thank you and "forget" he promised to help you. You'll need to remind him, and then he'll tell you you still need a bunch of materials to collect. It involves hunting Ghouls or Strains, Dead Seekers, Granite Golems and Silenos.

Good thing that three of these mobs are in the same area, the Execution Grounds in Dion. There's no port directly there, unless you want to use the Priest of Dawn/Dusk to port to Heretics' Catacomb. Otherwise, you need to run there. Remember, as I usually warn on my guides, that Execution Grounds can be a PK place in many servers, so always be prepared. The mobs themselves are rather easy, and you need 70 (yes, 70) of each quest drop. The good thing is that with the new quest enhancements that came with CT2, one mob drops a large number of them (I think 6 or 7 depending on the mob). It will still take you a little while, but nothing as compared to what it used to be.
Here's where you can find the Ghouls or Strains (both of them will drop the same item, so you can hunt either), the Dead Seekers and Granite Golems:

The Silenos can be found next to the Monster Race Track. The best port is from Dion to Plains of Dion, and running north from the Port point.
![]() |
![]() |
Once you have all 70 items from each of the mobs, go back to Norman, and he will give you 7 Journeyman Gems for you to craft the rings:
![]() |
After that, it's time to get the Journeyman Deco Beads. So head to Gludio, and talk to Blacksmith Pinter there. He'll explain that for the beads, you need to hunt ants at Ants Nest. Oh fun. He also gives you a recipe to transform Amber Lumps into Amber beads. Some of the ants might drop Amber Lumps instead of Amber beads, so if you get one of those Lumps, register the recipe and transform them into beads. You will need 70 again.

By "Worker ants" he means any of the brown ones. The "red" ones don't drop it, so you should be safe in the first rooms of Ants' Nest. The drop rate has been increased too, and you also have a chance to get an Amber Lump to transform them into Amber beads. Once you have 70, you can go back to Pinter.
![]() |
![]() |
And Pinter will give you all the Journeyman Deco Beads you need to craft the rings.
![]() |
Now comes the crafting part. Before you go anywhere, you need to register the recipe that was given to you at the beginning of the quest. It's a low level crafting recipe, so even scavengers can use them. In order to see the recipe, you should use your "Item Creation" skill and select that recipe. You'll see that besides the Journeyman Gems and Deco Beads that you acquired through the quest, you will also need a list of normal materials. Here is what you'll need:
![]() |
![]() ![]() ![]() |
So for each ring you will need: 10 varnish, 10 D-grade Crystals, 1 steel. A total of 70 varnish, 70 D-grade Crystals and 7 steel. So make sure you have them before you try to craft the ring.
Once you gather all the materials, just craft them as you would craft any other item, and the rings will show on your Quest inventory. And once you have all 7 rings, go back to Valkon in Giran. He will give you two dialogue options, I chose the first one, not sure if they matter (they shouldn't really matter). And then he will give you your rewards: the Mark of Guildsman, 514739 EXP and 33384 SP since the CT2 quest enhancements.
