Pailaka - Song of Ice and Fire

By ValerieRose

With the new update for CT2.2, there were three new instance dungeons added to the game, called Pailaka. The Pailaka is an instance dungeon that is directly connected to a quest and can only be done ONCE per character. The access to the instance is only through one of the Pailaka quests, and there are three of them currently available in game, separated by levels (lvl 36-42, 61-67, 73-77). This guide covers the first one, called Pailaka - Song of Ice and Fire, and available for characters in the 36-42 level range. You cannot do this quest if you're lower or higher than the minimum and maximum requirements, respectively.

The quest itself is worth doing, you get a LOT of experience and SP in the end, no vitality drop, and one of the rewards is the additional vitality points. So worth doing on a character with no vitality, as well. Just beware, the difficulity obviously increases with the other two Pailakas, but for now, let's cover the D/lower C grade one.

For this Pailaka quest, you start at Gludin. Close to the Einhasad Church, you'll find a new NPC called "Inspector Adler"

Inspector Adler Location: Inspector Adler

You must talk to him to start the Pailaka quest. It's the only way you can enter the Pailaka instance, by the way. He'll explain a bit of what the Pailaka is, and offer you the challenge.

Inspector Adler: I hear that strange omens have been observed near the Forgotten Tmeple. I can only hope it's nothing serious... QUEST LINK Inspector Adler Quest Text

Once you accept the challenge, you will be teleported into the instance, which is basically an instanced version of the Forgotten Temple, for this Pailaka. Be aware that it's not the REAL Forgotten Temple, but an instanced copy of it; there's no way for anyone to find you in there, no way of getting help, and no way of getting out from the door (trying will send you back inside the instance). This is a solo instance, so there's no way you can bring a party member with you, so make sure you only accept the challenge when ready, buffed and with enough supplies (I suggest taking SSD if you're already C grade or a D grade caster, and healing potions are useful). In the case you need to get out, the only way you can exit it is by using a Scroll of Escape. And using an SoE will not affect the quest or the instance time. If you ever need to get out for buffs, or supplies, in the middle of the instance, just use an SoE and talk to Inspector Adler again in Gludin. He'll send you back to the instance, exactly where you had stopped before, provided you're still within the 60 minutes that are available for the instance.

If by any chance you don't manage to finish the instance within 60 minutes, you will have to restart, but there's no need to restart the quest. You might have to redo everything though.

In any case, once you're inside the instance, to continue with the quest, you have to talk to another Inspector that you'll find inside of Forgotten Temple, right by the hallway where you can choose the Fire or Water sides. Her name is Inspector Sinai.

Inspector Sinai Location: Inspector Sinai

Talk to her, and she'll explain more about the Pailaka, and about your task inside the instance.

Update (24/11/2008): So after testing it myself, and receiving feedback from other players, I can confirm that you don't need to give last hit on the main bosses after all. So if you have a better weapon than the one the quest gives you (or if you are a caster, for example), you can just kill the bosses with your weapon. Just remember to talk to the Temple Inspectors in any case, to move your quest forward.

Sinai will give you a sword (which is actually a pair of dual swords, D grade) and the Temple Book of Secrets. She says in the quest text that you need to kill the mobs inside the Temple with the sword she gives you, but that's not necessary. All you need to do with the sword is give the main bosses the final hits so your quest will update, that's why I suggested to bring some SSD with you if you're already C grade or if you're a D grade caster. I've tried to melee the main bosses with my normal weapon and the quest did not update. More on that later, though. Here's the initial stats on the sword. They're actually top D, which is good compared to other quests that give us weapons we MUST use. Not to mention that you'll get the chance to enhance them, but that's for later on the guide. At this point on the quest, the quest swords have these stats:

Sprite's Sword Statistics

The Temple Book of Secrets is an item that you can double-click on your inventory. It will give you clues and hints on where to find the bosses you will need to kill to finish this instanced quest. Every time your quest updates, your Temple Book will update too, so I recommend checking it every now and then if you forget what you're supposed to do.

Back to the quest now, Sinai has told you to find bosses named Chaotic Sprites. If you check your Temple Book, it will give the name of the first boss you need: Hillas. But to get to Hillas, you will find yourself having to face some mobs inside the Temple. All mobs in there are aggro, so you WILL have to fight some to get to the bosses. But, all mobs there give exp, so it's not a bad thing. Another thing you should pay attention to, inside the instance, are for small vases that can be found around the rooms. "Killing" them will drop special potions that can only be used inside the instance, and that can actually be very useful, such as quick healing potions, water-pdef enhancers, instant invulerability potions and so on. I suggest you explore some of the rooms before getting to the main boss, exactly in order to gather those potions that can be helpful when killing the bosses.

Here are the mobs you'll find on the water side:

Spirit of Water Spirit of Water

Also inside the Forgotten Temple rooms, you will find other Inspectors, with the name tag "Temple Inspectors". You'll need to memorize where they are for a later moment, more specifically after you kill the bosses. Here are the Temple Inspectors:

Temple Inspector Temple Inspector Quest Text

Now that those details are explained, let's talk about the first boss. Hillas can be found on the Water side of the Forgotten Temple, a few rooms after the entrance, on the room that is in front of the first Temple Inspector you will find. She's alone in the room, by the way. You can fight her with your normal weapon, but you will need to equip the quest weapon for the final hit, at least on this Pailaka version., or you'll be forced to restart the quest (and actually wait until the dungeon period is expired, since she doesn't respawn inside the 60 minutes you have at your disposal).

Spirit of Water Hillas

She's not a normal mob, she's a mini-boss, so prepare yourself to spend some time killing her. She doesn't hurt too badly, and if you have healing potions, or if you found some of the Pailaka's special pots and buffs, you can use them. As I said, you can use your weapon to fight her, but make sure to change to the quest weapon to give the final hit, so your quest can be updated. Killing her will update your quest log with a special scroll AND it will also update your Temple Book. I suggest opening it to read what it says:

Temple Book of Secrets Text

So after the quest updates, you need to find a Temple Inspector to enhance your sword. You can talk to the one right outside Hillas' room.

Temple Inspector Quest Temple Inspector Quest Text

The first enhancement on the quest sword will give you a new skill called Shalin Heal, which you can access from your skill window when you have the quest sword equipped. It's actually a pretty decent healing skill if you need for an emergency.

And now that you have the enhanced sword, you can find the second boss you need to kill on this instance, called Papion. She can be found deeper in the Water side, on the corridor that leads to the Fire side. It's the long corridor with the 4 sets of stairs by each door, that take to a water pool underneath it. It shouldn't be hard to find, just go forward inside the Water side and you will eventually find it. But memorize this place, you will need to remember it later. She's surrounded by some Spirits of Water that are aggro, Papion herself isn't. She's social though, so take the minions out of the room before attacking her. I suggest you deal with the minions first, then kill her aftewards.

Spirit of Water Papion

For Papion, the same rules apply as the first boss. You can fight her with your weapon, but the final hit must be done with the quest swords. And once you kill her, your quest log will update, and so will your Temple Book. Read it again, and it will give you the clue for the third boss:

Temple Book Of Secrets Text

Now you don't need to talk to a Temple Inspector, there's no enhancement needed at this point. Just go straight to the Fire side this time, until you find one of the big halls with the four other rooms connected to it. You will find mobs in the way, just as you did on the Water side. The mobs on the Fire side are named Spirit of Fire. They give exp, are aggro and are a little higher level than the water ones. It shouldn't be too much of a problem, in any case.:

Spirit of Fire

You can explore the fire side as you did with the water side. Here there will ALSO be special vases that you can break in order to get special potions to help you fight the bosses. Once you think you're ready, you can find Kinsus and fight her.

Spirit of Fire Kinsus

The procedure is the same as the two first bosses. You can choose to fight her with your weapon, and give the final hit with the quest weapon. Just reminding you all that all the bosses give a decent amount of EXP as well. Once you kill her, giving the final hit with the quest sword, your quest log will update with another enhancement scroll AND it will also update your Temple Book. Read it for the clues on the next boss.

Temple Book of Secrets Text

So that means you need to find another Temple Inspector to enhance your weapon again, before the book will update you on what to do next. There should be one nearby, so just talk to him to enhance the dual swords.

This enhancement adds a Damage-dealing skill to your sword, called Shalin Strike. And surprisingly enough, the skill is VERY good and gives around 1.2k damage to the mob, so I suggest using it when you have to use the sword. You will also notice your Temple Book has updated, giving you the clue you need to find the following boss.

Temple Book of Secrets Text

Gargos is on a similar room as the previous fire boss, just further ahead. He's slightly harder than the previous ones and should take a little longer to kill, but nothing too dangerous.

Spirit of Fire Gargos

Same procedure as all the other bosses, on this one as well. Just make sure you hit him last with the quest sword. Once you kill him, your quest log will update and so will the Temple Book, giving you the clue on the final boss.

Temple Book of Secrets Text

You don't need to enhance your sword anymore, so you can go straight to fight the lass boss, Adiantum. Remember the room where you fought the second Water boss? Well, you will need to go back to that room and dive on the pool under the bridge. There should be an underwater passage, under one of the stairs there, that will lead you to the secret room where Adiantum can be found.

Stairwell Picture Underwater Picture

Once you find Adiantum, you'll see he's actually a kitty! And he has one mob next to him. Kill that one first, then proceed to kill him as you did with the other bosses. He's not too hard, but remember to use the quest sword for the final blow.

Adiantum Picture

Once you kill him, using the quest sword for the final blow, the quest will tell you to talk to Inspector Adler. He will spawn in the room. DO NOT scroll out to talk to him outside, or you will have to restart the quest from the very beginning. Talk to him as he spawns INSIDE the instance to finish your quest.

Inspector Adler Quest Text

He'll give you an SoE to get out (since it's the only way to leave the instance), and once you finish the quest, you'll have 5 minutes before you're booted out of the instance. You'll also get the final quest rewards, which are two D grade pieces of jewelry:

  • Paliaka Ring, that has better mdef than the top D ring (29 mdef) and a 15 MP bonus, but cannot be traded, dropped or enchanted.
  • Paliaka Earring, that has better mdef than the top D earring ( 43 mdef) and a 20 MP bonus, but same, cannot be traded, dropped or enchanted
  • Vitality points (which means that other than not losing points inside of the instance, you will actually gain them when you complete the quest. Of course, if your vitality is full, it will make no difference).
  • 810.000 EXP and 50.000 SP
Pailaka - Ice and Fire Quest Rewards

Good job on finishing the first Pailaka instanced quest! Just don't be fooled, this one was easier, the other ones aren't quite so. But... it's worth doing for the rewards, the fun factor and the exp and sp!
