Tymoz says "So Dark Elf, you dare to stand before the mighty Tymoz? I am the Governor of this village of the Coterie of the Eternal Night. Do you wish to assist the Coterie, or will you better serve us as sustenance for our eternal lives?

You say, "I wish to assist the Coterie".

Tymoz says "You have made an itelligent decision my friend. Our primary fo is the meddling Validus Custodus, the militia of Katta Castellum. I will reward you for every two damaged custodus legionnaire helms or two damaged custodus centurion helms that you present to me as proof that you have slain members of our enemies ranks". Johanius Stake of Slaying (Normal): Johanius Barleou stands next to the guard to the left of the Katta Castellum zone in Tenebrous Mountains (Approximate loc. is 100, 1550). He seems to be a 4 hour spawn, although I haven't been able to nail down exactly how long. Hail him to start the quest.

You say, 'Hail, Johanius Barleou'

Johanius Barleou says 'Greetings traveler! You seem like a brave individual for having dared the Tenebrous Mountains without a patrol of Validus Custodus to defend you! I am need of some assistance in an [urgent matter]!

You say, 'What urgent matter?'

Johanius Barleou says 'My sister and my beloved Lyrra have been captured by the vile blood suckers are being held in the largest of their dark settlements. I can not face that number of blood suckers alone. Are you prepared to slay the wicked undead?

You say, 'I am prepared to slay the wicked undead'

Johanius Barleou says 'Excellent, I commend you in advance for your courage. Let us make haste lest something awful happen to my loved ones!

At this point Johanius starts walking out into the mountains. Nothing we passed aggro'd on him, but they will aggro on you. Just be alert and you can usually avoid the sonic wolves and bats that roam around this zone. The various alien type creatures here were indifferent to me (56 Druid), but I am not sure if that holds true to everyone.

He ends up at the 3 building Coterie camp at approximately 1300, -500 (#3 on EQAtlas map of Tenebrous Mountains) We couldn't find a "Safe Spot" at this camp, there are wanderers that come through from all sides.

Johanius will stop next to the camp. He does not say anything further. If you go up the hill to the right of where he stops you will look into the camp and see three buildings, one to the left, one to the right and one straight ahead. There are 2 Coterie Centurions guarding the steps to the left and right buildings. Inside the right building is a named Coterie and another Centurion. The building straight ahead has one named in it. The building to the left has one Centurion in it, and the two women that you are here to rescue. The Coterie Centurions were all green to blue to me at 56 with most being light blue. The two nameds in this village were always dark blue to me. Nothing summons, but they will likely be invisible, so have a see invis up in some form. I was able to snare all of the Coterie in this village, the only thing that couldn't be snared were the wandering bats. (The new Druid spell Spirit of Eagles in a big help in this zone...faster than sow, lev, see invis and lasts an hour or more) Also to note, there are some gray wolves and black wolves that roam around. These look like normal wolves, not sonics. The black scowled at me, and the grays were indifferent. However the gray wolves were healing the Coterie if they were close enough, and they aren't considered animals (I tried charm but it said they were not an animal). the gray and black wolves were all blue to me at 56.

The trick is that you have to kill all of the vampyres at this camp. My partner, during one of our first few failed attempts, got to talk to the women while some of the vamps were still up. They tell you that all of them must be dead for them to escape. The vampyres in this camp are all on an 11-minute spawn, so you don't have much time.

We did this part with a 56 Druid and a 57 Mage, although it took a few tries and some creativity to get it to work. Timing is the key issue here.

Kill all 8 vampyres within the 11-minute time span and go to the building to the left with the women. I am not sure if you have to hail them or if it is an automatic thing, but Johanius will enter the building and start to escort the ladies back to Katta. (Note: Johanius' name has been changed at this point to Sir Johanius Barleou)

You say, 'Hail, Aellana Barleou'

Aellana Barleou says 'The Coterie of the Eternal Night is holding us captive! We can not leave until all the vampyres that reside in this village have been destroyed! If any of them are missing I assure you they will return! My brother Johanius is an experienced vampyre slayer and will coming for us soon!

Sir Johanius Barleou says 'We had best save our sentiments for later and make haste back to the safety of Katta Castellum!

Lyrra Rutledge says 'Johanius my love! You and your companions have rescued us from those horrible creatures!

Aellana Barleou says 'Dearest brother, how releaved I am to see you again!

Nothing seems to aggro Johanius or the two women on their return trip to Katta, so carefully make your way back to the entrance, and try to get there ahead of them so you are sure not to miss the rest of the dialogue. It isn't imperative that you do, because once Johanius gets back he will wait several minutes. If someone does not finish the quest he will eventually despawn, but I am not sure how long he waits.

When Johanius gets back to the Katta entrance he will stand in the same position next to the left guard. He will then say the following.


Sir Johanius Barleou says 'Hurry inside the gates ladies I will be in shortly after rewarding the brave individuals that assisted me in your rescue.

Lyrra Rutledge says 'We will see you at home Johanius, please hurry.

Aellana Barleou says 'We will see you at home Johanius, please hurry.

(Note: At this point Johanius' name changes again, to Johanius Barleou the Slay)

Johanius Barleou the Slay says 'Who is the most fearless [vampyre slayer] of your fellowship?

You say, 'I am the most fearless vampyre slayer'

Johanius Barleou the Slay Hands Dyllwin his bloodied stake and rifles through his backpack. 'Here, hand me back my stake and you can have this brand new one that has been enchanted by the Praecantors of the Magus Conlegium.'

Johanius Barleou the Slay says 'On behalf of the citizens of Katta Castellum I extend our gratitude for your assistance in our war with the Coterie of the Eternal Night!
You gain party experience!!

At this point he despawns and you have the Stake, which is tradable but lore. Reward: Johanius Stake of Slaying
