Beginner FAQ (for those who just started the game)

Is this game free?
--Yes. The game is free to play and has an optional item mall.

What classes are there?
--Mage/Pagan, Priest/Oracle, Defender/Guardian, Fighter/Warrior, Ranger/Assassin, Archer/Hunter

What is the best class?
--The classes are pretty balanced. Pick a class that suits you.

Is it open PVP?
--No. PVP is zoned by levels. There’s a level 1-15 pvp zone, 20-30 pvp zone, and a 1-60 pvp (all levels) zone.

What is the maximum level? Is there a level cap?
--60 for all modes except for easy mode, which is capped at 30.

What are modes?
--There is easy mode, normal mode, hard mode, and ultimate mode. Read about them here: http://shaiya.aeriagames.com/guide/start. For more details, see below.

Are there pets?
--No, but there are mounts for each class at level 40.

Is there crafting/making/trade skill?
--No. There’s a tab for it in game, but as of right now, no version of Shaiya has crafting.

How do you buy or sell things to other players? Is there an auction house?
--There’s no auction house. You can only set up a shop at your main city. (Apulune/Iris)

What are the consequences of dying?
--In PVE, you may lose up to 5% of exp. You cannot de-level. In PVP you can commonly lose equipment in inventory. In very rare cases, you can lose equipped items as well.

What server should I choose?
--Lailah is the older one that has been there since closed and open beta. Teos was opened in late April. Etain is the newest one. In general, you should join the newest server because it's the least populated (meaning more space to grind) and has the least amount of inflation.

What is light and fury?
--These are the two factions. Alliance of Light and Union of Fury. They fight each other in the pvp zones to increase blessing. Note that the factions have separate maps except for the pvp zones. The main difference is the looks.

Can I switch sides?
--Yes, but you need to delete all your characters. Your warehouse stays the same, but there’s no way to store gold. Most people have a separate account instead.

Can I switch servers?
--No. Your characters, items, and unlocked modes stay with that server.

Is this game in beta?
--No the game is considered live as soon as the item mall was opened but there are still bugs. There will be no wipe.

What is AOE?
--Area of Effect. It basically means killing a group of monsters at once rather than one at a time.

How do I get a mount?
--You can buy one for 11mil at level 40. In Apulune, the ride merchant is in Stardust Knights section. In Iris take a right.

How do I play hard mode? Ultimate mode?
--You can start with normal mode. You need level 40* NM to unlock Hard Mode (HM). 40 HM to unlock Ultimate Mode(UM). You have to start a new character to play a new mode.
*Note: Previously, you had to be level 50 to unlock the next mode. It has been lowered to 40 now.

If I delete my NM character once it hits 40, can I still play HM?
--Yes. Once you hit 40NM, hard mode is unlocked (for that server only). You won't lose it.

What is the exp difference between the modes?
--EM is about half of NM. HM and UM have the same exp requirements but it’s about 2-4 times as much as NM.

What is blessing?
--The bar on the bottom right shows you how high your blessing is. Mouse over the bar to see the benefits. The benefits apply to your entire faction.

How do you increase blessing?
--Killing members of the opposite faction in pvp increases blessing. Destroying and holding altars in the pvp zones also increases blessing.

How do I apply to a guild?
--Go to the guildmaster in Keollosu/Gliter.

Why can’t I join a guild?
--You can’t join a guild if you’re easy mode or have joined a guild in the last 3 days.

How do I make a guild?
--You need to make a party with 7 people with the guild leader as the party leader. No one can be in easy mode. Only the leader has to be level 11 or higher. Everyone has to be in map 1 near the guildmaster when the guild is created. There are some name restrictions too.

How do I transfer guild leader?
--This will be added in the next big update. For now, the GMs have to do it manually.

How do you upgrade equipment?
--You can make your characters stronger by linking lapis to your slotted equipment. Go to a blacksmith to try linking. You can increase your chances of linking with a linking hammer from the item mall but it is completely optional and not recommended in general.

Where do you get lapis and slotted equipment?
--You get level 1-4 lapis from monsters in pvp zones. Monsters in dungeons drop slotted equipment. You cannot make slots yourself.

What is noble, worship, heroic, etc?
--1 slot = noble, 2 slots = worship, 3 = heroic, 4 = dread, 5 = legend, 6 = goddess. NM can wear up to dread. HM can wear up to legend. UM can wear up to goddess.

What happens if you fail when trying to link lapis?
--Your lapis will break. Some lapis break equipment as well. But don’t worry, level 1-5, elemental lapis, and dual lapis don’t break equipment.

How do I make sure that equipment doesn’t break when upgrading?
--There is a lucky charm in the item mall that prevents equipment from breaking. This is generally not necessary.

How do I extract lapis?
--Use the blacksmith. Warning: the blacksmith will extract ALL of them. Use an extraction hammer from the item mall to remove one at a time.

What is the difference between a GM and a GS?
--A GM is a job, a GS is a community volunteer position. Only GMs have disciplinary powers.

How do I become a GM/GS?
--Since the GM position is a job, you need to live near one of the headquarters and apply there. You can apply for a GS position at the start of each month. There will be a thread in general forums for applicants.

What do you get in the new pvp maps (StableErde and Deep Desert)?
--High level noble to legend equipment from regular monsters. Unlike previous maps, the monsters are sectioned off by what kind of equipment they drop. One section will drop gloves, another boots, etc. They also drop dual lapis. Lapis is also sectioned off. One group might only drop only luck, dex, and rec for example.

What are the boss respawn times?
