Five in a Row: Test your logic!

Freelance Correspondent: Gvantsa

I decided to check out this event once I read about it on the official website. It sounded different and interesting. An event based around logic? I wondered how it would play out. However I did not stay long and I came to the event late.

The announcement said that it would be held 9-10pm forum time in Welling Aries2. So that is where I went. I had my other character Alexandra there so I decided to go to the event as her. I looked around for the GMs tent.

When I entered the tent I was overwhelmed by how many people were inside that little space. I had to uncheck their names, guilds, etc so I could see better. I recognized some people there too.

There were game stations scattered around the tent in rows. A black board and a TV thing were what they looked like to me. It took me awhile to realize that the event centered around these stations. When I clicked one an option came up with the words "Five in a Row" as the only option. So I clicked it.

I was lead to this. It quickly explained a bit about the game. But not exactly how the game worked. It did say that it was a game that is played with two people. You can stake different amounts of gold or nothing at all. If you lost and you put up gold, your opponent got your gold. If you won you got theirs. The game refers to gold as "jetton"

Afterwords you are lead to here. Each is like a mini-room where different games between two random people are held simultaneously. When I first came upon this screen I had no idea what I was supposed to do. Every once in awhile I noticed people appearing into one of the rooms. And sometimes empty rooms appeared. I figured out that when an empty room appeared you need to click fast and claim it to play the game. If you claim as the first person you set the gold for that game. If someone else claims it first they get to set the gold. So if someone puts up 10,000 gold and you accept and you lose you automatically lose that amount. But if you win you get that money for yourself^^ If you do not have the amount that has been set you are unable to play that game. It was tricky trying to get a room though, people enter and leave them so fast!!

Here is an example of an empty room/station. It means you can enter it and set up gold if you are the first to enter it.

Here is a room just claimed. I entered as the second person here so I accepted the wager. It was zero so if I lost I would not lose any gold. But one time I clicked another room fast to get in, did not check the gold (the other had set to 1000 gold) and lost it. So you need to be careful especially if you have no idea how to play the game.

Once you accept the game you will be lead to the game board. Each person has different colored stones. The goal is to get 5 stones in a row before your opponent. I did not know this at first so the first few times I had NO idea what I was doing! I randomly put down stones in random spots. Then when I remembered the title of this event everything made sense XD

Once you get the hang of it, it's actually fun^^ Especially if your one of the people winning all the time XD

Sadly I lost each and every time. Most of the games I played were with no gold wagered so I was safe even if I lost. One person actually won over 135k!!! Some walked away richer than before and others with less than they came in with. However despite losing so much I enjoyed this event. It was different from the usual events and unique. Maybe I'll stop by one of the other servers to play again! I recommend everyone on the other servers to try this game out. It's fun and if you discover you are really good at it you could walk away with thousands of gold or more!!
