Research on widescreen enabling Perfect World was started three years ago. At that time, the game developers felt that the 16:9 widescreen display ratio was able to give players a better visual sensation compared to traditional 4:3 displays. During that period, no other online game was able to achieve that kind of display ratio. Those games that were claiming to support the 16:9 widescreen format were actually utilizing 4:3 ratio displays and putting message boxes in the black region at the top and bottom of the screen thus simulating widescreen.

While Perfect World was developed with 16:9 ratio widescreen displays in mind, it still works perfectly with other systems at the same time as guaranteeing greater visual effects when run on real 16:9 ratio high-resolution displays.
