This is a semi-advanced guide so I will assume you know something’s likewhich character the short forms are (WAR=Warrior if you didn’t know read other guides first.).

The tank:

The tank is most commonly a PAL or WAR. They must have high HP and AC and be able to distract enemy somehow (WAR’s provoke PERFECT!). Their job is to be a meat shield. You run up and start pounding on the monster and use all TP skills or JA’s etc. you got. You take hits for the enemy, as the healer makes sure you don’t die. A common mistake is only using provoke when monster attacks your other members, you use it faithfully every 30 seconds to gain hate. You are the only member allowed to go all out on the enemy. If you’re about to die and your healers can’t heal you fast enough (watch for LOW HP macros) then you are allowed to get back for a few seconds. You should set your macros to your HP level, provoke (or similar), need heal, and current TP. All others should be abilities of some sort.

The DMG dealers:

BLM/Ranger

The black mage is, regardless of whatever you heard, a very weak job. At level 8 he can barely solo so it’s very important that the enemies don’t get near you. The most common (and this is so common I burst out swearing at my computer when it happens) is over-nuking. When the monster gets hit it generates hate for you. When a BLM hits it with 3 consecutive nukes then it’s going to rush you. At this point you stand still and take it like a man. Call for help from healers and STOP casting spells. Hopefully you won’t die but if you start running around in circles your allies (yes you have some) can’t hit it. Your macros should be set for current MP, spells (DUH), and Help me. You should also try to launch spells in sequence with WA’s of others. If you know your wait time for a spell you should add to your macro: /wait (wait time) next line /p (spell name)’s Ready!.

Similar things should be taken into account with rangers.

Melee DMG dealers

THF’s, DRK’s, MNK’s, SAM’s, etc. Do the same thing as BLM but instead of never getting hit you can take off heat from TANK for a short while. You should go nearly all out but not as much as TANK (don’t want monsters hitting you). You macros should be same but instead of spells make it WA’s.

Healers

WHM’s this is you. Since you should know what to do I’ll tell you how to set up macros and when to heal. Set up macros for heal player #1 is ctrl/alt 1. Heal player #2 is ctrl/alt 2. This way you never have to click on them. Only heal when below 50% to avoid hate massing up (yes hate does mass up for healing people). Also cure I is normally good enough. Only use Cure II or Cure III when it’s an emergency.

Support

Bards, this is basically you and a little of red mage. You have POS buffs and back up of everything. If healer needs help, you heal people, if TANK getting pummeled to hard take over for a little. Really not much more to say.

Final notes

2 HR abilities ARE NOT ONLY FOR EMERGANCIES. If it seems like it would help then use it!! I hate when the tank gets pummeled so bad because the BLM was out of MP. There, there for a reason damn it. You should talk about who what job you should be at start of party. Be responsible if you g2g and you know it tell someone.
