Introduction

Salarin the Twisted is a level 70 druid located past several agility obstacles in the Yanille dungeon. He is often killed for an item that he drops that unlocks a chest full of herbs: a Sinister Key.

Requirements

Skill Requirements: 67 Agility (or 64 Agility and an Agility Potion, or 62 Agility and a Summer Pie)

Recommended items: Decent mage armour, Staff of Fire (or Mystic fire staff, Lava Battlestaff, or Mystic lava battlestaff), 200-500 Mind runes, 2x as many air runes as Mind runes, Ring of Wealth, a small amount of food (enough to heal about 30 hp), Anti-poison potions, a weapon or knife to slash through a spider web (unless you have 82 Thieving). NOTE: If you have 55 Slayer and 50 Magic, then you can choose to use the spell Magic dart instead of the recommended fire strike spell. Thus, you will need to bring Death runes instead of air runes and a Slayer staff instead of a Staff of fire.

Instructions

Salarin the Twisted is in the Yanille dungeon. The dungeon is located just north of the city, however, there is a shortcut that you can use if you have level 82 Thieving in a room just south of Yanille bank. If you take the route to the entrance above the city, you will need to use your knife or weapon to slash through the spider web at the entrance. These are the two routes to the dungeon from the bank:

If you take the normal route, you will pass through 3 obstacles: a balancing ledge, monkey bars and a pile of rubble. If you fail either the balancing ledge or the monkey bars, you will fall into a level of the dungeon below containing spiders that may poison you. If you take the level 82 Thieving route, you only need to get over the pile of rubble.

Once you reach Salarin the Twisted's lair, you will find a person named Sigbert the Adventurer. If you talk to him, he will tell you that only attacks to the mind will kill Salarin, who is just down at the other side of the room. Guess what that means? Only Strike spells will damage him, so it is advised using Fire Strike as it is the strongest of the Strike spells. If you melee him, not only will you keep hitting 0's, but Salarin will cast spells on you that will reduce your stats, and if you allow it, your stats will be reduced to nearly 0.

At the other side of the room, you'll find Salarin and 4 chaos druids.

The first thing that you should know is the area that is safe from Salarin's attacks. Each of the squares 1 square to the south of the second torch from the north is safe. Salarin can not attack you if you walk into the safe zone. Here's an image to clear things up:

If you walk from the attackable zone into the safe zone while under attack, Salarin will immediately stop attacking and wander around in the attackable zone again.

You'll notice that if you attack Salarin the Twisted from inside the safe zone, he will walk backwards out of your range, forcing you to move forward into the attackable zone to attack him. There is a way to kill him without getting damaged or leaving the safe zone, however. First, you need to position yourself on one of two squares:

From there, attack Salarin the Twisted with Fire Strikes until he gets close to you, then quickly go 1 square south into the safe zone.

Immediately start attacking him again. He will walk backwards, but at the angle that you're attacking him from, he'll walk right into a trap. If done correctly, he will walk backwards into the corner between the wall and the statue, which is *just* in your range.

Finish him off in that postion (each Fire Stike hits 12!), but, right after you fire the shot that will kill him, run towards him. This will save you some runes, because if you don't move, by the time the shot that kills Salarin hits him, your character will be creating another fire Strike and fire it at Salarin, despite the fact that he was killed.

Another thing to note is that Salarin can't walk through other NPCs, so you can use the Chaos Druids to your advantage!

The main reason that Salarin is hunted is for the Sinister Key that he drops. The key opens a chest containing several herbs in it. If you happen to get a Sinister Key as a drop from him, keep it. The odds of getting a Key from him as a drop are about 1 in 8, and a Ring of Wealth does help.

Before you go to open the chest containing the herbs, you should go to the bank and store all your items except for the keys. You can go out the level 82 thieving shorcut door even if your theiving level is lower than 82. Make sure that you have an Antipoison potion with you, and 9 free inventory spaces per key. If you only have an antipoison potion in your inventory, it is possible to use 3 keys per trip, as 3 chests x 9 herbs in the chest is 27, with the antipoison makes it 28 inventory spaces, which are just enough.

Note: if you want to use 3 keys you MUST be wearing a weapon with which you can cut a web with, otherwise you will have to carry a knife and won't be able to fit all those herbs you get from the 3 keys into your inventory. Using the 82 thieving shortcut WILL allow you to carry 3 keys and fit all the herbs as you don't need something to cut through the web.

The Sinister chest is located past the obstacle pipe in a room full of Skeletons:

The chest is on the west side of the room. Drink an antipoison potion before you open it, then use your key on the chest. You will be attacked by skeletons as you open it. After you use all your keys on it, get out of the obstacle pipe. Each key will have gotten you 9 unidentified herbs.

The herbs are:
