Introduction
So you've decided to kill the KQ (Kalphite Queen) and go for the legendary Dragon Chain but you have no idea what to do? In this guide we'll show you how to squash that big level 333 bug like it was a level 1 spider. As long as you keep your wits and know what to do, the KQ is a pushover. But it's not easy for everyone, it may be challenging at times. It is highly suggested to have a team of 2 or more people, and have at least 90+ Combat, 70+ Defence, and 50+ Prayer
The Gear
The best armour and weapon set you can take to kill the KQ is the Barrows set Veracs. Its full set bonus hits through protection prayers, which makes hitting the KQ much easier, as it is constantly using a protection prayer.

Here is a list of optional items you can take in place of the ones pictured above.
- Amulets- Amulet of Strength
- Rings- Ring of Life or Warrior/Beserker Rings
- Capes- God cape, Cape of Achievement
- Gloves- Barrows/Dragon Gloves or Family Crest Gauntlets
- Boots- Rune Boots
- Secondary Weapon:
Dragon Mace - Can hit tremendously high, but at the same cost of being highly inaccurate.
Dragon Dagger (P), (+), (++) - Use this to poison the KQ. It is not advisable to use as a primary weapon because it hits low and often inaccurately.
Dragon Halberd - Same as the Dragon Mace, can hit tremendously high, but you have to be really lucky to be able to hit very high with this weapon. Another downside to this is that this weapon protects over Veracs Helmet. If using this weapon, be advised to stay alive!
Dragon Longsword - Can hit quite high, not as high as a Dragon Mace, but its more accurate then it.
Granite Maul - Can do 3 hits in the time it takes to hit one. It's quite strong, but don't be expecting to hit high every time.
Don't take anyone of these weapons in place of your flail; only use them for special attacks. Any other weapons are not advised to bring to the Kalphite Queen because of their weak special attacks. Please note that Dragon Scimitar and Dragon Spear special attacks WILL NOT work on the KQ.
Preparations
Before you get ready to embark on your trip, be sure you have at least 100 sharks. Generally 20 sharks will get you one kill with a team of two, so every 100 sharks should get you about 4-6 kills depending on how good your team is. Obviously the more people you have, the less food you will need. This is just an average with small teams. Also before you go, make sure that the pots you have will last as long as your food. The last thing you want is running out of potions half way through your trips. Once you're all ready, gather your team up at the Shantay Pass and use the bank there. Put on all your armour and set up your inventory.

You don't have to have your inventory look exactly like this if you don't have the potions. You can use a normal Anti-Poison Potion and the super set is completely optional. You can opt to not bring it and take 3 extra sharks instead. Also, there are multiple methods of teleportation that will be discussed later in the guide.
*Note: Only 2 ropes total are needed. If you have a team of 3+ people, only 2 of them need to bring ropes.
Journey to the Lair
Once you have all your items in place, leave through the Shantay Pass and run West until you see the red "!" dungeon symbol. Once you see it, have someone with a rope use it with the entrance, and climb down.

*Note: You can also teleport just south of the entrance using the Fairy Ring code "B-I-Q" after completing the Fairy Tale part II. Cure a Queen quest.
Once everyone has gone down the rope, walk all the way to the end of the tunnel. Be sure you walk through this part as it is semi-long and you'll need your run energy for the charge on the queen. Stop once you reach the guardians at the end of the tunnel. Be wary of the Kalphite Guardians as they are level 141 and will poison you if they attack you.
Final Preparations
Now would be the best time to close out any programs that might cause you a little lag. Just the slightest amount of lag could result in a quick death! This is also the 'pot up' time. If you brought a super set, use it now and switch from walk to run. Have the person with the second rope use it with the tunnel just like the first time and proceed down into the lair.

This box right here is known as the safe spot. Once you set foot outside of it the KQ will be able to attack you. Before you leave, put on Protect from Mage and Protect Item. Keep these on at ALL TIMES!! Using the Steel Skin and Ultimate Strength prayers can be an advantage, but it drains prayer very fast and is completely optional.
The Battle
Once you have all your prayers on, run out and charge the queen! She usually spawns north of the rope but can sometimes wander around the lair. Once you reach her and start attacking, it is best if everyone spreads out. Doing that will make her rapidly switch targets which slow her attacks down.
First Form

Her first form uses protect from mage and range. This is the easiest form to kill of the two. (If you brought a secondary weapon, use the special attacks now). The attacks from the first form normally hit 20-30 so watch your health!
Second form

The queen is dead! Or so you think, as a second form rises up out of the first one's dead carcass. (Right now is a good time to take a sip of prayer potion and restore health to full since your not being attacked). This form is a bit harder to kill, as its attacks do more damage (up to 31) and it uses protect from melee, becoming harder to hit. This is the form that most people find themselves dieing at because it can do way more damage then you can heal in one bite. If you run out of food, you should teleport out right away; don't be a hero!! Once the KQ is dead, pick up the loot and teleport out right away. If you have a good size team and think you have enough food left, you can try to stay for another kill.

Hopefully after a while you'll be able to get a Dragon Chain as a drop.
The Range Method
Now some of you out there that can't afford Veracs are probably wondering how you can kill it? Well there is another possible range method that is a bit harder but will still work. In order to pull off the range method, you need to have atleast 75+ Attack, Strength and Defence along with 55+ prayer. Your also going to need atleast 75 range, but higher is recommended.
Gear
Here is what you should be wearing along with the inventory you should take.

This is the recommended items to wear but theres always optional gear to take. Karils is recommended over D-hide because of the extra magic defence.
- Amulets- Unholy/Holy Symbol
- Rings- Ring of Life or Archer Ring
- Capes- God Cape, Cape of Achievement
- Gloves- Barrows Gloves, Family Crest Gauntlets or Black Dragonhide Vambraces
- Boots- White Boots or Snakeskin Boots
- Armour- Black Dragonhide Chest and Legs
- Helmets- Initiate or Range Helm
- Bows- Crystal Bow, Rune C'Bow with Rune Bolts or Magic Shortbow with Rune Arrows
If you wish you can take any of the secondary weapons listed at the top for a special attack.
Killing the Kq
Make your way to the safe spot in the KQ lair, just like you would if you were doing the melee method, once you have all your gear together. Before you make your way outside of it, turn on the Protect from Range prayer and keep it on at all times. You can also use the new Eagle Eye prayer along with Steel Skin but again its completely optional and uses up prayer very fast. Charge the KQ with your melee weapon. If you brought a weapon for special attacks, now would be the time to use it. After the first form is dead, take a sip of your Range potion if you haven't already and switch to your bow. Now take a few steps back so your out of the way of her melee attack and start ranging. After shes dead grab the loot and teleport out. This method uses up ALOT of food but it will work.
Optional Teleportation Methods
Here are the numerous ways you can teleport out if you plan on doing multiple trips.
Runes
Simply use normal law runes. Bring runes and teleport to wherever you wish.
Teleportation Tablets
A very good method would be the use of teleportation tablets. If you have or know someone who has a Teak or Mahogany Eagle Lectern in their study, you can go to their house and make either a Camelot or Lumbridge teleportation tablet. For Lumbridge, the most common, recharge your prayer at the chapel South East of the castle and simply walk back to the pass. If you go to Camelot, recharge your prayer at the alter on the second floor in the Camelot Castle, then teleport back to Al-Kharid with a Glory Amulet or Dueling Ring.
Ectophial
The Ectophial is a nice option to teleport out as it is a 1 click teleport activated in your inventory. However if you teleport out with this, you may still get hit one time once you reach the Ectofuntus. (You need to have completed the Ghost Ahoy quest to use this method.)
Elf Crystal
Using the Elf Crystal has the same advantages as the Ectophial as it's a 1 click teleport. This teleports you to Lletya, right near a bank and an altar. Recharge your prayer on the 2nd floor of the building north of the bank and head back to Al-Kharid. The only downfall of this method is that you can only use it 3 times before you have to recharge it. It's not bad if you have a high amount of them, but isn't the best option. (You need to have started Mourning's Ends Part 1 to use this method.)
Your House
This by far, is the best method of teleporting. You need a construction level of 47 or above, and have a mounted Glory and altar in your house. Teleport to your house using either runes or a tele-tab, recharge your prayer using the altar in the chapel, and teleport back to Al-Kharid using the mounted Glory.
Tips on going Solo
Nowadays, going solo can be quite the task. In order to have a successful solo trip to the KQ, you should have a combat level of around 120. Do everything like you would do if there were other people around but you have to be vigilante of your hits. Having the KQ only attack you will make the hits add up real quick. Do as much damage as you can in one round and teleport out as soon as you run out of food. Get back to the Shantay Pass as fast as possible and make your way back to the lair. You need to do this quick as another team of people can easily come in and steal your kill. Hopefully in 2-3 rounds you should be able to kill the queen. Going in solo really uses up a lot of food, but if your lucky enough to get a good drop, it's all yours. It's a high-risk, high-reward method of killing it.
Other Information
History
The Kalphite Queen was released into the game on September 7th, 2004 and brought into the game one of the most valuable items, the Dragon Chain. As more people learned to kill her by themselves, Jagex soon gave the KQ a second range attack. Players still found a way to take her down alone, so Jagex introduced a second, tougher form of the KQ. On February 20th, 2006, Jagex introduced one of the most anticipated weapons of the game, the Dragon Two-Handed. This weapon can only be dropped by the KQ and Chaos Elemental.
Kq Head
The KQ Head is a rare drop from the Kalphite Queen. It is a non-tradeable item that needs to be stuffed at the Taxidermist in Canifis for a 50k fee, then it can be stored in your bank or put on your wall in the Skills Hall room of your house if you have 78 construction or are using construction-boosting items (stews, crystal saws, tea etc) to add your construction level up to 78+.
