Introduction:

To use the Abyss, you must complete a task for the Mage of Zamorak, the task is not very hard but does require the Rune Mysteries quest to be completed.

It is suggested that you bring at least some teleport runes to teleport to Varrock (1 law, 1 fire, and 3 air runes), this will save you a lot of time. The following items will save you even more time (you don't have to teleport to all of these places which is explained further down in the guide): Yanille teleport runes (watch tower teleport), Ardougne teleport runes, and a Glory amulet to teleport to Draynor Village.

Instructions:

1. Locate the Mage of Zamorak north of Edgeville (level 5-6 wilderness), at the end of the river. Talk to him, and he will tell you to speak with him in Varrock.
   
   
2. Head to the Chaos Temple in the southeast of Varrock, and speak with him. He will give you a Scrying Orb. You will have to teleport to the Rune Essence mine from 3 different locations.
   
   
3. Teleport to the Rune/Pure essence mine from 3 of the following locations (it is recommended you go to Aubury first as you are already in Varrock, this means you only have 2 more teleports left to do):
   
   Aubury in the Varrock rune shop, just south of the eastern bank in Varrock.
   
   
   
   Wizard Sedridor in the Wizards' Tower, south of Draynor Village.
   
   
   
   Wizard Cromperty in the building northeast of the Ardougne market place.
   
   
   
   Wizard Distentor in the Wizard's Guild in Yanille.
   
   
   
   Wizard Brimstail in a cave southwest in the Gnome Stronghold.
   
   
   
   After you visit three locations, the orb will begin to glow.
   
   
4. Take the orb back to the Mage of Zamorak and speak to him, and you will receive your rewards - 1000 runecrafting experience, his research notes, and a small pouch.

When visiting the Mage in the Wilderness, there is a right-click option to teleport to the Abyss.
