Update detail

1. Fossil Restoration

Ever stood eye to eye with one of Erinn’s most terrifying monsters, without so much as flinching? Ever wielded the cold steel of a blade or pulled taut the smooth shaft of an arrow, with hands that never once shivered or twitched? When cooking, are your measurements absolutely perfect? Hope so, because only those who are patient and precise will succeed in the art of fossil restoration!

Fossils can be obtained in two ways. The first is by hunting creatures in the Zardine region. Monsters there have a small chance of dropping fossils encased in stone. Second, mining flint or sulfur in the Zardine region will sometimes provide you with fossils. You’ll have a higher chance of finding fossil artifacts through mining than through hunting monsters.

Once you’ve obtained a fossil fragment, you can attempt to restore it to its original shape. This is done by tracing the outline of the fossil in its encased rock as closely as possibly without chipping it. You’ll have three different dusting brushes available, and choosing the right size brush for each part of the restoration process is essential. But don’t dilly-dally! You only have a short time to restore the fossil.

Unless you’ve totally destroyed the fossil, return to Calida Exploration Camp and speak with Belita once you’ve finished the restoration process. She’ll appraise your restoration and reward you accordingly.

Do your best each time you try to restore a fossil. Erinn needs more adventuring archaeologists just like you!

2. Hot Air Balloon Battle

Check out the embedded YouTube video of a Hot Air Balloon battle! Click HERE for a direct link to the video.

Grab a handful of friends and take to the skies in the brand new Hot Air Balloon feature! Soar across the treacherous volcanic landscape of Zardine and battle hordes of Wyverns as sulfuric fumes drift dangerously far beneath you. You’ll first experience the new Hot Air Balloon mechanic while progressing through the main storyline of Mabinogi: Dragon. Then, you’ll be able to take part in a mini-game of sorts fending off Wyverns while gliding through the sky in a Hot Air Balloon.

Hot Air Balloons come in two flavors. The smaller balloon acts as a modest vehicle, able only to transport you and a few friends. The larger balloon, on the other hand, also contains four ballista emplacements, which act as your main offense against the Wyverns. To launch a Hot Air Balloon, you’ll need to purchase a kit that contains the balloon, a basket, and flint, the fuel required to keep the balloon in the air. To operate a ballista, you must first purchase ballista bolts from an NPC in the Calida Exploration Camp.

Upon entering Wyvern territory, all hell breaks loose. The flying creatures attack from all directions, raining fire, ice, lighting, and physical attacks down on you and your friends. To stay alive, you’ll need to work together. Only magic, ranged attacks, and the ballistae attached to your Hot Air Balloon can reach your winged enemies. Once you’re satisfied that you’ve given the Wyverns a good beating, return to the Calida Exploration camp and speak with an NPC to get rewarded for your efforts.

3. Gem Weapon Modification

Are your weapons looking a little drab? Have they lost a bit of their luster? Any fashionista could tell you, it’s the subtle touches that really make a look, but in this case, those subtle touches also increase your weapon’s power. In the upcoming Mabinogi: Dragon update, you’ll be able to use the power of gemstones to increase the power of your weapon. You thinking what I’m thinking? It’s time to bling out your weapons!

First things first: you can’t just slap your precious jewels onto any old weapon, right? Of course not! You have to take pride in your possessions. You have to pour a little love into them. Therefore, gem modification can only take place once you’ve fully upgraded your weapon. That’s not it, either! Gem modification demands the utmost proficiency with the weapon at hand—can’t risk those gems getting chipped because you don’t know the correct way to swing a sword, right? So get yourself out into the battlefield and raise that proficiency. Anything less than 100% proficiency just isn’t good enough.

Once that’s done, your weapon is almost ready. Now, it’s time to make the final adjustments. Various NPCs spread throughout Erinn would be happy to perform the gem modification for you, but first, you need to have the right gems. Depending on the weapon you have, the jewels required vary. For example, if you have a Gladius, you’ll need a Star-Sapphire, Jasper, and Topaz. Unfortunately, it’s a bit more complicated than just grabbing the first gems you see. The jewels also need to be a specific size. The first gem must always be larger than 4cm, the second larger than 2cm, and the third larger than 1cm. If you’re fortunate enough to have all three jewels larger than 4cm, you’re in the clear!

When you’ve obtained the required upgrades, proficiency, and gems, simply speak to the necessary NPC and ask for a gem modification on your weapon. They’ll gladly fit those precious jewels onto your weapon to further enhance its power.

After that, it’s just a matter of dazzling your opponents with your bling’d out gear!

4. Two-handed Weapon Improvements

When the continent of Iria was discovered, many humans discovered they preferred equipping twin swords as they hacked-and-slashed their way through foes. Not necessarily a bad thing, as wielding two smaller weapons commonly unleashed more damage that a single, giant two-handed weapon. But as dual-wielding weapons became more and more popular, two-handed weapons gradually faded into the background, with the exception of a few dedicated warriors.

But now, as something sinister stirs beneath the surface of Zardine, ready to awaken... As a tired war between dragon sects threatens to spill into the everyday lives of Human, Elf, and Giant alike… As adventurers mobilize to protect the lands and people they hold dear… Now, in a world that forebodes troubles of colossal proportions, the legendary instrument of dragon-slaying lore—the two-handed weapon—reemerges as mighty once again.

Swords, axes, and maces have all undergone specific improvements in relation to the Smash and Critical Hit skills. To top it all off, two-handed weapons now have access to new, exclusive enchants: Untamed, Barbarian, and Destruction!

It’s time to march into Zardine with your Claymore gripped proudly in hand, ready to strike fear into the heart of any scaly creature—no matter how large—that might deign to consider you a snack.

5. Hardmode Dungeon

Normal dungeons just not cutting it for you anymore? Craving a challenge worthy of your time and energy? Wait no longer! Hardmode dungeons are coming in the next update, Mabinogi: Dragon! Hardmode dungeons can’t be accessed by just any old adventurer. You have to be a certain cumulative level before you can even enter the Hardmode antechamber. Once in, you’ll face the most challenging versions of Alby, Ciar, and Rundal dungeons yet!

If you survive your visit to a Hardmode dungeon, you’ll be rewarded with a ton of new items and enchants—among them, the “vintage” versions of past clothing styles. A friendly warning, though: Hardmode dungeons are tough, so enter at your own risk!

 6. Flying Star Broom Pet Click

Almost all adventurers know about the recent dangerous happenings in the northern parts of the world, but the ominous stirrings beneath Zardine have caused other curiosities throughout Erinn. Most notably, brooms…have come to life! Antiquated star brooms, more commonly used as ornaments than housekeeping tools, are standing upright and skittering earnestly across the ground.

Anyone able to tame one of these brooms will find they’ve acquired a loyal companion, eager to do the bidding of its newly-made friend. Not only do star brooms use their unique “sweep” function to dust the ground for lost treasure, they can also fly! That’s why they’ve been nicknamed “Flying Stars.”

Flying Stars makes excellent pets because they move quickly over both land and sky. In the air, Flying Stars move faster than Pelicans but slightly slower than Eagles. Unlike their winged counterparts, however, Flying Stars move quickly on land, too! They’re as fast as Shire horses, and just a bit slower than Thoroughbreds.

Flying Stars make excellent traveling companions, thanks to their shining versatility and unique abilities. You just might want to get better acquainted with the broom sitting forgotten in your closet…it could end up carrying you through the skies of Iria!

Check out the YouTube video below to see the Flying Star in action! A direct link is available here.
