Guide to Budgeford and Frogmorton Quests

Budgeford and Frogmorton are two communities in the Shire, along the river. Most of these quests are around level 10, and contain some of the first truly challenging quests for a new adventurer in Lotro (who are playing hobbits, that is). There are a surprising number of "serious" quests here, atypical of usual lighthearted quests found in the Shire. There are three main quest lines here, all of them fun, and interesting. The first is "The Spectre of the Black Rider", the funniest of the three quests. Basically, a foolish hobbit (who obviously has no idea of what dread beings the black riders are) is fooling around, "haunting" the sties of Budgeford at night. The second quest line, the Veiled Threat, involves one of the "Big Folk" who has a grudge against a benevolent hobbit. Finally, the "Runed Collar" quest is the most serious of the three main quest lines here, involving a warg who is inciting the wolves of the Shire. All of these quests are fun, not too long, and not too hard, though they can be a challenge or a bother if you get "stuck" finding an item or location. Aside from the three main quest chains of these two communities, there are, of course, the postal runner and pie quests to be found here. This area is also ok for your wolf hunting and harvest fly deeds.

10 Postman Oddfoot Bundle for Woodhall (requires Inspire Postman Oddfoot) Frogmorton Postman Oddfoot of Frogmorton has asked you to deliver a mail satchel to Woodhall. Collect the Satchel from Postman Oddfoot's Table Avoid Nosey Hobbits Postman Spinner can be found in the centre of Woodhall. Deliver the satchel to Postman Spinner in Woodhall as quickly as possible. Let no nosey hobbits interfere with your duty, and do not let the satchel get wet! (Author's note: This quest is a little more difficult than others, because of the timer. I found that heading northwest from Oddfoot, then cutting south and heading directly to Woodhall, climbing steep slopes, is the best way to do it quickly. Spinner is at 33.3S, 65.7W.) 90C
9 Ponto Hopsbloom The Floating Log Frogmorton (The Floating Log Inn) Ponto Hopsbloom, innkeeper of The Floating Log in Frogmorton, is entering the Four Farthings Brewing-moot. Collect Hops (12) Frog Hops grow in the marsh north of Frogmorton. The Floating Log Inn is in Frogmorton, south of the Frogmoors. Ponto Hopsbloom has asked you to pick some Frog Hops for his famous beer. (Author's note: The hops are easily found at 31.1S, 67.7W) 90C and Toad's Tongue Ale
9 Myrtle Oddfoot Spoiled Pie from Frogmorton (requires Lobelia's Pie) Frogmorton Holly Hornblower of Hobbiton baked pies using spoiled berries and has asked you to bring any of the bad pies you find back to her. Myrtle Oddfoot of Frogmorton had one such pie. Collect Myrtle Oddfoot's Pie Avoid Hungry Hobbits Holly Hornblower's home is north of the Hobbiton main square. Myrtle Oddfoot has one of Holly's bad pies, which you should take back to her as quickly as possible. Make sure no hungry hobbits catch a whiff of the pie, as Holly doesn't want to be bothered with them asking for a slice, especially since she has to bake fresh pies for all her customers. 90C
10 Milo Hornblower Many Happy Returns Frogmorton Milo Hornblower, irate at Lobelia's notion of receiving birthday presents instead of giving them out, has been raising a particularly vile, fat toad to bring her as a present. Defeat Hill Toads (8) Lobelia the toad is hiding among the hill-toads in the Frogmoors, the marsh just north of Frogmorton. Milo Hornblower has asked you to clear out enough toads in the Frogmoors for Lobelia the Toad to show herself. 2. Fight Lobelia the Toad With enough toads cleared out, Lobelia the Toad should emerge somewhere in the Frogmoors, north of The Floating Log. Milo Hornblower has asked you to subdue the wild toad he has named Lobelia. (Author's note: Lobelia appears at 31.1S, 67.9W. She is a elite toad, but just a toad.) 90C and Hornblower's Hands (gloves) or Pork Sausage (3)
9 Cam Puddinfoot Wolves in the Fields (requires Seeking Saltpetre) Budgeford Cam Puddifoot, a pig-farmer in Budgeford, is having problems with wolves raiding his sties. Defeat Wolves in Puddinfoot's Fields (6) There are wolves in Cam Puddifoot's fields to the east of Budgeford. Hyacinth Took sent you to Cam Puddifoot to request delivery of some saltpetre for Lobelia Sackville-Baggins' fireworks. Farmer Puddifoot is willing to deliver the saltpetre, but he wants you to clear his fields of wolves first. (Author's note: Cam's field is at 31.1S, 64.3W) 90C and Hyacinth's Gauntlets
11 Postman Bolger Bundle for Scary Budgeford Postman Bolger of Budgeford has asked you to deliver a satchel of mail to Scary. Collect the Satchel from Postman Bolger's Table Avoid Nosey Hobbits Postman Digswell can be found in the town of Scary, north of the town centre. Deliver the satchel to Postman Digswell in Scary as quickly as possible. Let no nosey hobbits interfere with your duty and do not let the mail satchel get wet. (Author's note: You can easily cut across fields to get here, avoiding some delays, but beware creatures attacking you. Digswell is found at 27.8S, 66.5W)  90C
9 Sapphira Bolger Spoiled Pies from Budgeford Budgeford Holly Hornblower of Hobbiton baked pies using spoiled berries and has asked you to retrieve them before they are eaten. Sapphira Bolger of Budgeford had one such pie. Collect Sapphira Bolger's Pie Avoid Hungry Hobbits Holly Hornblower's home is north of the Hobbiton main square. Sapphira Bolger has one of Holly's bad pies, which you should take back to her as quickly as possible. 9 Bingo Bulger The Trouble with Harvest Flies Budgeford Harvest flies are generally just a nuisance to the crops, but recently they have begun attacking hobbits in the Marish. Defeat Harvest Flies (10) There is a nest of harvest-flies on the Yale-height a distance to the south and east of Budgeford, not far north-east of Woodhall. The hill is marked by three pillars at its pinnacle. Bingo Bolger is disturbed by the increased aggression in the harvest-flies and has asked you to help deal with them. 90C and Bolger's Shoes or Hard Biscuits (3)
10 Wilimar Bolger The Veiled Menace Budgeford When Wilimar Bolger woke up this morning, he found a threatening arrow stuck in the door of his home. The arrow's head was of hobbit-make, although very old, while the shaft looked like it was made by Men. Search North of Wilimar Bolger's Home The arrow came from the area near the hedge-gate that leads to the Greenfields, north of Wilimar Bolger's home. Wilimar Bolger has asked you to search the place where he thinks the arrow came from, in hopes of finding some sign of the person who loosed it and what it might mean. (Author's note: Look for a journal at 30.5S, 66.0W right next to the hedge gate). none
10 Odovacar Bolger Spectre of the Black Rider Budgeford Odovacar Bolger's workhands reported that they saw a dark figure lurking around Mr. Bolger's pig sties at night. Search for the Black Rider at Night Odovacar Bolger's sties are in the southern part of Budgeford by the stream. Odovacar Bolger has asked you to investigate his workhands' reports by going to his pig sties. He was very particular that you should go there at night. (Author's note: The pig sties with the "black rider" is at 31.4S, 65.9W, and you can only go there (as it says) at night to find the "rider".)  90C
9 Linda Bolger A Taste for Pork Budgeford Linda Bolger of Budgeford is worried about a pack of wolves that have invaded the Shire and fears her pig farm will soon be attacked. Talk to Milo Bolger Milo Bolger is at a farm east of Budgeford, keeping an eye on the wolves in the nearby ruins. Linda Bolger came to Budgeford looking for someone to help with the wolf problem. She has asked you to speak with her husband, Milo. (Author's note: Milo is found at 30.7S, 64.5W.) 2. Defeat wolves (8) The wolves can be found east of Milo and Linda Bolger's farm, among the ruins. Linda Bolger sent you to speak with her husband, Milo, in regards to the wolves that have entered the Shire. Milo asked you to thin the pack before they can become a greater threat.  90C and Pork Chops and Bolger's Hooded Cloak or Pork Sausage (5)
9 Milo Bolger Howling at Midnight (requires A Taste for Pork) Budgeford According to Milo Bolger, the wolves in the ruins were heard fighting among themselves one night. When the fighting ended, a large number of wolves ran through Budgeford, but did no harm to anyone 1. Talk to Linda Bolger Linda Bolger is in Budgeford, on the road furthest down the hill. Milo Bolger told you that his wife, Linda, had been caught outside when the wolves ran through Budgeford. He told you to go speak with her to learn more. 2. Search the Yale Height The Yale-height is a far distance south-east of Budgeford, beyond Stock Road, not far north-east of Woodhall. The hill is marked by three pillars atop its pinnacle. Milo Bolger asked you to speak with his wife, Linda, about the strange encounter she had with the wolves in the middle of Budgeford. Linda did not have much more to reveal, other than to ask you to investigate the Yale-height, where she saw a large and evil-looking wolf digging in the soil on the night the wolves ran through Budgeford. (Author's note: At 33.0S, 65.0W you find an rune inscribed collar. Yale-Height is covered with sickly flies.) 90C
9 Linda Bolger The Secret of the Collar (requires Howling at Midnight) Budgeford You found a collar inscribed with runes you cannot read, apparently buried by the unusually large wolf Linda Bolger saw the night the wolves ran through Budgeford. Bring the rune-inscribed collar to the Elf near Woodhall An Elf may be camped near Woodhall, south of Budgeford. Linda Bolger was confounded by your discovery of a collar where she had seen the great wolf. She was unable to read the letters on the collar, but thought that perhaps the Elf Milo thought he saw might be able to decipher them. (Author's note: The elf encampment is right next to Woodhall at 33.4S, 66.1W) 90C
9 Wilimar Bolger A Few Pages Short (requires The Vieled Menace) Budgeford The journal you brought back to Wilimar Bolger was missing many of its leaves, thanks to being shaken and torn by some wild beasts. Collect Journal-leaves (3) Wolves can be found east of Budgeford. Without the missing leaves, it will be impossible to determine who shot the arrow in Wilimar Bolger's door, nor why. Wilimar suspects that wolves tore the journal apart and has asked you to try to recover the leaves from them. 90C
10 Wilimar Bolger The Menace Confronted (requires A Few Leaves Short) Budgeford By reading the reassembled journal, Wilimar has learned it was written by a Man named Callum. Callum's ancestor was killed in a great battle by Wilimar's ancestor, and the family has borne this death as a black mark for centuries. Callum has decided to erase the mark by coming to the Shire and killing a descendant of that hobbit. 1. Talk to Callum Callum's campsite is on the far west side of the Frogmoors, west of Budgeford. In light of the revelations gleaned from Callum's journal, Wilimar Bolger has asked you to go to Callum's camp and stop him from carrying out his intended revenge. (Author's note: Callum can be found at 31.2S, 68.5W) 2. Talk to Wilimar Bolger Wilimar Bolger can be found near his hole on the north-west side of Budgeford. When you arrived at Callum's campsite, you found him wounded. Racked with pain, he told of how he had fled from his hiding place near Wilimar's home, only to startle a wild boar, which gored him. He feels that he will soon succumb to his wounds and told you to let Wilimar know he has nothing more to fear. none
10 Wilimar Bolger Bandages for Callum (requires A Menace Confronted) Budgeford Reading further in the journal, Wilimar has begun to sympathize with Callum, the Hillman who swore to kill him. Learning of Callum's hard-fought life in a realm far in the north, he has decided to aid Callum and help him with the wound he suffered from the wild boar. Collect Prickly-bloom leaves (4) Prickly broom grows along the Water, south-east of Budgeford. Wilimar has decided to provide Callum with bandages for his wound, but to aid in his healing, he wants to soak the bandages in an unguent made from prickly broom leaves. He has asked you to gather these leaves for him. (Author's note: Prickly Bloom leaves are found at 32.1S, 65.7W, and east, along the bank all the way to Stock.) 90C and Callum's Mace or Callum's Bow or Callum's Staff
10 Odovacar Bolger Cloak of the Black Rider (requires Spectre of the Black Rider) Budgeford Odovacar Bolger has sent you to pursue the so-called Black Rider who has been stalking his pig sties by night. Look for signs of the "black rider" The "Black Rider" was seen in Cam Puddifoot's fields, east of Budgeford. Odovacar Bolger told you that one of his neighbours, Cam Puddifoot, reported the Black Rider on his land, being chased by wolves. Odovacar has asked you to go look for the horseless "Rider". (Author's note: The cloak is found at 31.1S, 64.0W among wolves.) 90C
10 Odovacar Bolger Fate of the Black Rider (requires Cloak of the Black Rider) Budgeford Odovacar Bolger is certain the mystery of the trespasser in black will soon be resolved. 1. Follow Veronica Odovacar Bolger has lent you the services of his hound, Veronica, to track down the mysterious "Black Rider". He told you to follow Veronica wherever she lead, and she would find the trespasser. 2. Talk to Fogo Fallowhide Fogo Fallohide can be found at The Golden Perch in Stock, south-east of Budgeford. Odovacar's Bolger's hound, Veronica, led you to Greta Fallohide, who told you she made the cloak for her nephew, Fogo. Fogo Fallohide is very likely the "Black Rider". You should seek him out. 90C and Bolger's Leggings or Bolger's Robe
